As someone who is not so steady on their feet, I am really worried about regularly having to avoid stepping on the rubbish strewn around outside the old doctors’ surgery on Croftdown road (number 46).

The various bits of packaging, plastic bottles and other litter scattered around there create a fall-hazard for me as I could trip or slip on them or get my walking stick caught in them.

I have lived on Croftdown road for 25 years now and for quite some time, I have noticed that the road-sweepers gather rubbish from our road and the surrounding streets and then leave their filled bags near the old surgery to await collection.

The gap between when they leave the bags there and when they get picked up is too long – about two days it seems – and in the meantime, the foxes get at the bags and tear them up and spread the rubbish around everywhere.

I have asked CDA to speak to the council about this. In response, Councillor Adam Harrison said: “Yes that is the system: the sweepers need to leave them somewhere so they can be collected. I appreciate bags occasionally get ripped open but I don’t think it happens all the time. If there is a regular hot spot where it is a problem, then we could review that.”

Meanwhile Senior Area Monitoring Officer David Quigley said: “Our cleansing contractor Veolia sweep the streets and the accumulated litter is bagged up and left at collection points for pick up and disposal. The sweepers bags should be collected promptly and not left for extended periods.”

Officer Quigley added: “If residents notice bags left in the street or fly tipped waste they can report this to us at our helpline on 020 35678105 or via the love clean streets app which can be downloaded from the Camden website here Love Clean Streets – Camden Council.”

Sadly, I’ve tried reporting this and nothing has changed.
